Heritage

The University of Law is one of the UK’s longest-established specialist providers of legal education. In fact, we’ve trained more practising lawyers in the UK than anyone else. We can trace our origins to 1876 with the formation of leading tutorial firm Gibson & Weldon. With a rich heritage and a reputation for innovation and contemporary teaching practices, we focus on developing the best legal minds.

Multiple campuses across the UK and World

With 13 locations in 12 cities across the UK, and international campuses in Berlin and Hong Kong, The University of Law offers a diverse choice of locations to study in. Our well-equipped IT suites, comprehensive law libraries, quiet study areas and vibrant social spots cater to all your study needs.

We also teach our GDL and LPC postgraduate courses at the University of Exeter, the University of Reading and the University of Liverpool, and the LPC at the University of East Anglia. Our unique switching facility allows students to choose to study at one, two or more campuses to sample life in different cities during their studies.

Working with other Universities

Offering students the best of both worlds, The University of Law now provides professional legal training courses in more locations across the UK. Our innovative GDL and LPC courses are now available to study at the University of Exeter, the University of Reading and the University of Liverpool, combining the excellence of ULaw’s teaching with the outstanding student experience and stunning surroundings of these highly-regarded universities. Innovative and Teaching

We specialise in teaching and focus our energy on developing innovative, highly effective teaching and learning methods that equip students for their professional career. We have more than 250 qualified and experienced solicitors, barristers and judges as our tutors, enabling us to help you develop the practical skills that can make all the difference when starting your career in law.

Our courses

From our undergraduate LLB to our professional postgraduate qualifications, our courses are specifically designed by experienced law academics and professionals, so you can be confident in the knowledge that you’re learning real-world legal skills from real lawyers.

Benefits of a Law Qualification

A law qualification can help you break into a wide variety of industries. From human rights to music, city finance or sport, law covers virtually every aspect of modern life. So whether you want to work in the legal sector or wider business world, a legal education is a great place to start. A legal career is satisfying, challenging, exciting, varied and rewarding, with many different types of specialisms to choose from and new areas always being developed to accommodate the modern world.

Our practical law degrees will develop your skills in critical thinking, advocacy, negotiation, analysis, and strategy. These core skills are highly valued in the workplace, whatever you choose to do next. Our alumni have gone into politics, journalism, banking and finance, technology and the media as well as the legal sector.

Enhanced Employability

What really sets us apart from other universities is our belief that our students should learn in a realistic, professional and contemporary context. We focus exclusively on practice-based training and give students access to our extensive careers service and jobs vacancy database as soon as they accept a place with us. Through our pro bono programme, law students can hone their skills by working on real cases before they graduate.

Student Life

You’ll enjoy a range of interactive and lively activities both inside and outside of the classroom. Business games, mock trials and negotiation competitions are just some of the practical exercises you’ll take part in to develop your legal skills. In your spare time, you can join a range of clubs and societies, sports teams and fundraising committees, or even start your own, as well as enjoying the more relaxed side of student social life.

Student Association

All students are automatically members of the University’s Student Association (SA). The SA is tasked with enhancing your student and academic experience by having a strong representation of the student cohort.

The SA primarily supports students by being a strong and active voice for you at all levels of the University. The Student Association President leads on ensuring the student voice is heard in committees and working groups that cover a range of subjects and topics across the University.

You can join a Student Association Events Committee to work with your fellow students in developing a full and varied programme of extra-curricular activities, clubs and societies, and much more. The exact mix of events and groups varies at each of our campuses and as it’s all put together by our students, it’s really up to you what’s on offer.

Clubs and Societies

There are a broad range of clubs and societies across each of our campuses managed by the Student Association. Here is just an example of some of the clubs that we’ve run recently:

  • Football
  • Netball
  • Debating Society
  • Women’s Network
  • International Society
  • Yoga
  • LGBT+ in Law
  • Cocktail Society
  • Adventure Sports Club
  • Charities Society
  • Cake Club
  • Dungeons and Dragons

You can also set up your own club or society through the Student Association, so if you have a hobby or passion that you’d like to involve others in you can talk to your Student Association representatives about how to get it started.

The SA can also assist students who wish to appeal a decision made regarding a reasonable adjustment for a disability. The Student Association Executive Officer leads on supporting students in the correct procedure for this.

The Student Association is always looking for new representatives, so why not get involved as a Class Representative or even a Student Association Vice-President to attend the Student Parliament and represent your campus?

Supportive Environment

We aim to support more students from across a variety of backgrounds than ever before to achieve their career ambitions, which is why we offer a comprehensive range of scholarships and law bursary schemes, including law work experience opportunities, with a substantial fund available across our courses.

All students are given the opportunity to take full advantage of our facilities and services. The Disability Support & Inclusion Service is dedicated to managing any requirements you may have during your studies, including temporary assistance due to injury or illness.

Our comprehensive and experienced Employability Service gives in-depth help with CV writing, interview techniques and general career guidance, as well as offering a wealth of opportunities to boost your experience and skills. Meanwhile, our pro bono clinics give you the chance to work with practising lawyers on real legal cases while you’re studying.
